Charlene's of New Orleans.....

woah - this is intense. I just asked Charlene (of the infamous New Orleans lesbian bar / political hotspot named after her) if I could use her logo on the quilt and this was the response:

Hi V, surely you have permission to use the logo as a one time only project. Sorry I don't have any copies of the logo. We lost everything in the storm including almost 50 years of gay New Orleans history, film, audio tapes, pictures, everything......


Woah. Even a year later I am still stunned at the losses.

Thanks to Amy Laura, I have been able to add a little New Orleans dyke herstory into the quilt. Yes - this newsletter pictured above is from 1970 and it was 15 cents back in the day! Thanks for staying posted and Syd - you should stop lurking if you don't want to see updates!
