Charlene's of New Orleans.....

woah - this is intense. I just asked Charlene (of the infamous New Orleans lesbian bar / political hotspot named after her) if I could use her logo on the quilt and this was the response:

Hi V, surely you have permission to use the logo as a one time only project. Sorry I don't have any copies of the logo. We lost everything in the storm including almost 50 years of gay New Orleans history, film, audio tapes, pictures, everything......


Woah. Even a year later I am still stunned at the losses.

Thanks to Amy Laura, I have been able to add a little New Orleans dyke herstory into the quilt. Yes - this newsletter pictured above is from 1970 and it was 15 cents back in the day! Thanks for staying posted and Syd - you should stop lurking if you don't want to see updates!

Did you know that I am going to get my black lace up the back boots shined by our district attorney here in Santa Cruz? True that. His name is Bob Lee and, apparantly, he has a shoe shine kit and a willingness to serve. I love that in a district attorney. More deets later.

I'm switching my livejournal to this site so that y'all can stay on alotoflife.com more easily. Thanks for hanging in with me as I add the archives back in and revamp the web site.

As a quick update, we are back from a fabulous summer. I am working on three quilts simultaneously (The New Orleans, Road to Remission and Sweet 16) while also trying to work with Dani on the web site.
