All of V Kingsley’s quilts are in private collections.  She is honored to accept commissions for art quilts of various sizes. She works intimately with her clients to ensure attention to the smallest details and often uses photographs and clothing of the client or their loved ones in the piece.  She almost always uses antique and vintage fabrics, buttons, beads and trims, especially in her crazy quilt pieces. The client can have as little or as much input as is comfortable in the design, size, color and texture of the finished product and can always rely on V’s unique vision to capture the essence intended.

Restoration

You do not need to throw out your beloved antique quilt (or great e-bay find!) just because of dirt or tears or worn fabric. V does accept commissions to restore, clean, fix or stabilize antique quilts. Because of the nature of this type of work, it is essential that the quilt is shipped to her for an estimate of the work. She is comfortable with full restoration using vintage fabrics from the same period as the quilt and can just as well use reproduction fabrics if it better fits the taste and budget of the client.

Finishing

V will accept, on a limited basis, commissions to finish quilt tops (vintage or new) using free-motion quilting.  This means that the client provides the quilt top (and possibly the backing) and V will add the batting, fuse all three layers together with quilting stitches unique to each specific quilt and then bind it around the edges. She can also ready the piece for hanging if that is desired. There are plenty of places that will finish quilts using a long arm machine, but a long arm machine can never have the whimsy and versatility of free-motion quilting.

If you are here, you probably already know what I am about to say. You know that many commissioned art quilts often carry a price tag 5 digits high. You know that the “inexpensive” quilts that can be found online and at your local home furnishing store are made at the expense of our sisters in developing countries. You know that those quilts are paid for in someone else’s blood.  You are here, I hope, because you want affordable art that is infused with memory and meaning, constructed with care and vision. You want a creation so personal with a story so unique that it could be found on the walls of an art gallery but will never be found on the shelves of a home furnishing store.
